Top 5 Fitness Apps To Use to Track Your Calories and Efforts
Strava
If you’re a cyclist, I highly recommend Strava. It’s a great app for several reasons, primarily because it caters to the needs of athletes, and fitness enthusiasts to track and share your efforts socially. Now that deserves a Kudos!
Some of the key features that I use as an athlete are below.
Activity Tracking: This allows users to track a wide variety of physical activities like my favorite, cycling, running, strength training, and many more.
Segment Challenges: This feature really stands out. As a user, you can create and participate in segments that you create yourself or on your local route made by other cyclists. It’s great in that you can challenge yourself or other cyclists to add a competitive edge to your training.
Personal Records (PRs): Strava tracks and records your hard efforts. This gives you a sense of achievement as you progress as you aim to beat your fastest time.
Route Exploration: Cycling is all about having an adventure mindset. This feature allows you to explore routes to ride no matter where you are.
Motivation and Accountability: The social and competitive aspects of Strava can provide you with the motivation you need to stick to your routines and achieve your goals. Connecting with friends and giving/receiving Kudos, makes it all the more enjoyable.
Strava’s combination of activity tracking, social engagement, data analysis, and community interaction makes it a great app for individuals looking to stay active, motivated, and connected with like-minded individuals.
MyFitnessPal
MyFitnessPal is a well-regarded app that helps you track your daily food intake, making it easy to keep track of calories and macronutrients such as carbohydrates, protein, and fat, along with micronutrients such as vitamins and minerals so you can achieve your fitness goals. There are a lot of other bonus features this app packs in including.
Customized Goals: This allows users to personalize the app by entering their weight loss goal, muscle gain, and general wellness goals to stay on track.
Barcode Scanner: MyFitnessPal has a barcode scanner that enables users to scan the barcodes of packaged foods to quickly input nutritional information, making food tracking more convenient and accurate.
Large Food Database: The app has an extensive database of foods, including brand-name items and generic ingredients. This makes it even easier for users to find and log the foods they consume accurately. You can also log your recipes for home-cooked meals.
Integration with Wearable Devices: What I love most about this app is that you can sync with various wearable fitness devices, such as fitness trackers and smartwatches, to automatically track physical activity and sync it with your user account. I do this with Strava for my cycling and other exercises like running and strength training from my Garmin watch.
Nutritional Insights: The app also provides insights into users’ nutritional intake, which helps identify areas where they might need to adjust their diet to meet their goals or improve overall health.

Withings Digital Scale
Withings provides a range of health-focused devices including digital scales with an accompanying app that enhances the user’s experience by tracking weight, body composition, steps, heart rate, and more. Using a digital scale offers several benefits, especially in the context of health, fitness and overall well-being
Below are some of the key features that I use to keep myself accountable and help me achieve my fitness goals.
Daily Weighing: Say goodbye to your analog scale, digital scales provide more accurate and precise weight measurements which is important if you are working on weight management. The app provides you with your progress over time at a glance so you can see where you’ve started and the direction you are headed.
Body Composition Analysis: Withings digital scale offers these features beyond just measuring weight. It can analyze your body composition, including body fat percentage, muscle mass, bone mass, and more. This gives you a more comprehensive view of your health beyond just your weight.
Goal Tracking: For those with weight management or fitness goals, Withings digital scale provides a quantifiable way to track progress. You can set specific targets and see how you’re progressing toward achieving them.
Personal Accountability: Regularly using a digital scale can help you stay accountable to your health and fitness goals. It’s a tool that encourages consistency in monitoring your progress from all the hard work you’ve put in to elevate your overall fitness.
Garmin Forerunner 955/Connect App
As a hybrid athlete who wants to get a better understanding of what their body goes through in multi-sports, the Garmin Forerunner is always on my wrist. Not only am I able to track my performance analytics but also sleep. Below are a few key feature offerings.
Sports and Activity Profiles: The Forerunner 955 could support various sports and activities, allowing you to track and analyze data specific to your chosen activity, whether it’s running, cycling, swimming, strength training, or others.
Performance Analytics: The watch may offer in-depth data analysis, allowing you to review your performance over time, set goals, and make informed decisions about your training regimen.
Sleep tracking: The watch tracks the total amount of time you spend sleeping each night, insights into your sleep patterns, trends, and goals, and a sleep score rated by quality. This is one of my favorite features of the watch.
iPhone Notes app
The iPhone Notes app is like my digital pen and pad. It offers several advantages that make it a popular choice for users seeking a simple and effective note-taking solution. Below are some key features and how I make the most use of the app.
Checklists: The app allows you to create interactive checklists, making it handy for to-do lists, shopping lists, and task management. I also use it for tracking my daily weight.
Simplicity: The app’s interface is clean and straightforward, allowing you to focus on the content you need to jot down without unnecessary distractions.
